What is Organic Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is everywhere lately, being raged about for its miraculous benefits to the body. But what is it? Where does it come from? And how can you choose the right supplement, with all of the options that claim to benefit your body? These, and other coconut oil-related questions will soon be answered.

True coconut oil is an edible oil that is derived from the inner kernel of mature coconuts from theCocos nucifera tree. This tree is native to the coasts of Melanesia and Southeast Asia. Coconuts are very useful. In addition to producing coconut oil, they produce 11 other crops including nectar depending on its state of maturity.

Usage of Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is edible, and it is widely used for food, medicine, and industry. It is renowned for its wide range of uses, many of which are beneficial to the human body. The reason coconut oil has become so useful is its high level of antioxidants and saturated fats. The antioxidants in coconut oil allow it to benefit the human body in a variety of ways, including increasing the power of the immune system, raising good cholesterol, balancing weight, improving the strength and softness of the skin and hair, and slowing the aging process. The saturated fats in coconut oil allow it to slowly oxidize. This slow oxidation process allows it to last up to two years without spoiling.

Choosing a Coconut Oil Product

To receive the true benefits of Organic Coconut Oil, you should look for a product that is pure. There are three types of coconut oil often found for sale, including virgin, refined, and partially hydrogenated. Virgin coconut oil is extracted from mature coconuts without the use of high temperatures or chemicals, which traps in its antioxidant properties.  Refined coconut oil is made from dried coconut. This is often chemically bleached and deodorized, which removes the majority of the beneficial antioxidants. Partially hydrogenated coconut oil is processed even more than refined coconut oil. When choosing a coconut oil supplement, be sure to read the ingredients. If the words “refined” or “partially hydrogenated” are present, the product will not be able to offer the same health benefits as unrefined, or virgin coconut oil.
