How to Stay Focused

The key to success is to focus our conscious mind on things we desire not things we fear  (Brian Tracy)

What you focus on decides what you get and how you feel. Everything you’ve achieved and accumulated up until this point has been a result of what you have chosen to focus on in the past. A great part of being human is that we can decide what you focus on. From this point on you can literally decide to change your focus and improve your life dramtically.

One of the most important aspects of setting goals is that it narrows your focus on what you really want. This makes you think about it more and you come up with new ideas and you will see new opportunities that you may not have seen before.

A popular way of reinforcing your focus is to write down your goals on a piece of card and keep it with you all of the time. I have done this myself and it caused me to be thinking about my goals throughout the day and to think about what I was doing or not doing to achieve them.

I want you to decide what your three main areas of focus are in your life. Write them down and decide that you are going to spend as much time as you can doing something in the area of those three focus points. An example would be family, health and saving money. They can be whatever you want them to be. Once you’ve decided on them begin to think about what you could do in each area to improve them and write them down.

As I mentioned earlier get a card that can fit in your pocket or wallet and write down your three areas of focus and keep it with you wherever you go.

By deciding on what you want to focus on you will be able to concentrate more on those areas of your life and improve them. However you still have to work really hard otherwise nothing will happen! A good phrase to remember is ‘when would now be good time?’. If you have an idea about something act on it straight away. If you know there’s something you’ve been putting off, make that the first thing you do today.

Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand. The sun’s rays do not burn until brought to a focus (Alexander Graham Bell)

As you consistently focus and work hard you will produce lots of new ideas. This is your subconscious brain throwing you new ways to achieve your goals. Keep a small notepad with you or write the ideas down on your phone. I promise you that you won’t be able to remember them all if you don’t write them down. Get into the habit of recording your ideas no matter how good or bad you think they are. You can go over them later on and evaluate them. The more ideas you record the more ideas you’ll produce and the more progress you will make on your three areas of will also improve your self-esteem as you prove to yourself that you are a creative and intelligent person.

Lots of people believe by multi-tasking they can get more things done. The opposite is actually true. By focusing on one thing at a time and giving it your full attention you can complete the task to the best of your ability instead of doing four things at once and doing none of them well. Quality over quantity.

Decide what you want to focus, work hard on it and do one thing at a time, all the time.

Being selective—doing less—is the path of the productive. Focus on the important few and ignore the rest (Timothy Ferriss)

By focusing on what you really want and working hard in those areas of your life you will see a remarkable difference in your life. Decide what your three main focuses are, write them down on a card, carry it with you and make a commitment to work as hard as you can.
